Well, not “we” per se, however my PhD advisor, UC Irvine Professor Jay Famiglietti, was a co-author on the recent “Satellite based estimates of groundwater depletion in India” with his former PhD student and current NASA Scientist Matt Rodell. Also, 2nd author I. Velicogna is on my PhD committee. (So it’s kind of like I wrote this thing myself, right?)
The article was recently published by the British Journal Nature. With it’s high selectivity , publishing in this journal is basically a once-in-a-career type of big deal, so a big congratulations to them!
For me, this was an amazing lesson on how fast information travels across the web, especially when you have the backing of a major scientific journal for press releases. The story broke this morning, and it’s already all over Google news – 168 news articles in less than 24 hours!
I thought it was funny that it made it onto the tail end of this Wall Street Journal/ MintLive.com article. How did it get there so fast?! Guess these guys do google searches while they’re writing.
The internet is amazing. Remember when we used to watch TV for our news? Man, you must be old!
